We Don’t Need Another Hero because Proud Mary Keep on Burning as Broadway’s TINA The MUSICAL asks West Palm Beach What’s Love Got to Do With it live at the Kravis Center through March 17!
An uplifting comeback story like no other, TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL is the inspiring journey of a woman who broke barriers and became the Queen of Rock n’ Roll. Set to the pulse-pounding soundtrack of her most beloved hits, this electrifying sensation will send you soaring to the rafters.
One of the world’s best-selling artists of all time, Tina Turner won 12 GRAMMY® Awards and her live shows were seen by millions, with more concert tickets sold than any other solo performer in music history.
This new musical based on the life of legendary artist Tina Turner opens to Anna Mae as a young girl growing up with her grandmother in rural Tennessee, singing the loudest of all in her church choir. The story transitions to 17-year-old Anna Mae moving to St. Louis to live with her mother and more assertive sister, who treats Tina to a night on the town at a popular night club. The young singer catches the ear of rock and roll star Ike Turner as he’s performing with his band.
Ike becomes infatuated with under-age Anna Mae’s dynamic voice and woos her into joining him on tour. Soon, the demanding Ike changes Anna Mae’s name to Tina and they form the Ike and Tina Turner duo. Ike’s aggressive temper surfaces, leaving Tina abused, unpaid and pregnant, forcing her to marry a man she doesn’t love.
Tina’s talent begins to outshine Ike’s in the eyes of record lables, but her iron-clad contract with Ike means he owns the rights to the name and music of Tina Turner. Sadly, when the battered Tina has had enough of the philandering Ike, Tina escapes to hide in a hotel, thanks to a generous hotelier who takes pity on her. To discover what happens next in this on Tina’s epic rise to stardom, get yourself a ticket to TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach before the show comes to a close on March 17.
When she was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in October, 2021, Tina Turner became one of only three women in the institution’s history to be inducted twice (she was initially inducted in 1991, alongside Ike Turner).
The North American touring cast is led by Ari Groover (TINA Broadway, Head Over Heels, Holler If Ya hear Me, Little Shop of Horrors) and Parris Lewis (Hairspray) who will evenly share the role of Tina Turner, each playing four (of eight) performances a week. Also starring are Deon Releford-Lee as Ike Turner, Roz White as Zelma Bullock, Wydetta Carter as Gran Georgeanna and Sarah Bockel as Rhonda.
